waltham loft of iKatun
july 23, 2006
One summer evening in 2006, a non-profit art organization named iKatun held a fundraiser in their Waltham loft space. It was a festive occasion, and there were many performances of vaudevillian acts, some with burlesque sensibilities. I felt honored to be invited to set up my equipment in an adjacent hallway and perform experiments with light, even though I was in the direct path to the fire escape where the smokers congregated. In these segments, I attached multi-colored steamers to the wall and directed a fan at them, while maintaining a stable video feedback pattern on the wall itself. Eventually it was possible to step back and allow the system to express itself in ways that were strictly deterministic but impossible to predict.
